Head south from Downtown L.A. to Exposition Park via the Metro Expo line (with an extended route that connects to Santa Monica for $1.75 each way), home to several of L.A.’s top cultural attractions and venues, including the University of Southern California (USC), the Natural History Museum (the world’s only T-rex growth series in the Dinosaur Hall) and the California Science Center (the permanent home of the Space Shuttle Endeavor). The Original Farmers Market is a cherished L.A. tradition with bakeries, a variety of ethnic cuisines, gourmet shops and informal picnic style seating areas. Food tours are also available. Continue your ocean-themed experience with a visit to the Port of Los Angeles, home to the Battleship USS IOWA, once known as the “world’s greatest naval ship”, or visit the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach to learn about the Pacific Ocean and its inhabitants. Otherwise, head north to Malibu via famous Pacific Coast Highway to visit the Getty Villa, an impressive collection of art and antiquities set in an equally impressive setting. The Getty Villa houses the J. Paul Getty Museum’s collection of approximately 44,000 Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities. Over 1,300 objects are on display in 27 galleries devoted to the permanent collection, with six additional galleries for changing exhibitions.
